About us

History

SmartCoach Europe AB was founded in 2006 in Stockholm as a spin-off of a research project with the Karolinska Institute and the European Space Agency (ESA).

Its founders, Marco Pozzo (first and current CEO) and Per Tesch (inventor of flywheel training devices) were working on validating flywheel technology for training in space (ESA’s FWED device), and its transfer to applications in sport. The company mission was initially to develop tools for tracking exercise in weights and the then novel flywheel devices.

Now

When Prof. Tesch retired, Marco Pozzo continued the development of the SmartCoach system, making it the one-fits-all monitoring solution for strength training, applicable to a continuously growing range of machines, brands and technologies.

Currently, the company has a branch in Europe (SmartCoach Europe) and one in the US (SmartCoach Technologies), an R&D laboratory in Italy and a facility in India, equipped with the latest technologies and machinery for in-house production of electronics, mechanics, and software and firmware development.

Marco Pozzo and Dennis Keiser

A major breakthrough has been the compatibility with the unique Keiser® air resistance machines, born from the ingenuity of Dennis Keiser, and taken as inspiration by NASA for its astronaut training device (ARED).

One of our unique values is the scientific validation of our products, deriving from our constant engagement in research with some amongst the most renowned sport scientists. The other is the continuous development and optimization, in collaboration with top professionals in sport.
